EuroVelo 1 Ireland started as a place to share information about one of Europe's great cycling routes, the Atlantic Coast Route that hugs the western edge of Ireland from the Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal all the way south to Cork. It is a spectacular road, and we wanted to help people plan it, enjoy it, and understand what makes it special.
Over time we found ourselves writing just as much about life along the route as about the cycling itself. The towns, the landscapes, the people who live and work here year round. So we broadened things out a little.
Today this site covers the full picture of Atlantic-edge Ireland: the route, the ride, the places, and the everyday business of living in one of the most beautiful but also most demanding environments in the country. Whether you are planning a cycling trip or fixing up a house on a wind-battered Connacht hillside, you are welcome here.
